How do I get my music off the internet and into my Libraries and what happens along the way.
Where do I get my Music
There are many places that I might get my music.
Music Retailors
- BeatPort
- iTunes
DJ Pools / DJ Services
- TheMashup.co.uk
- DoingTheDamage
- DJ City
- BPM Supreme
- HypeEdit
- Soundcloud
- DMC
- MasterMix
- Go through each of the sources you are download and first download the tracks

and once the tracks from that source are downloaded

copy the files into a directory with the name of the source

drag those different source folders into platinum notes, platinum notes will create output folders with the same names.

Platinum notes will do the following for each of the files
- Remove Clipped Peaks, which risk damaging your speakers at high volumes
- Normalising the volume across all tracks to 11.5 LUFS
- Snapping the pitch of a tune to closest exact pitch, which helps with mixing and mashups
- Expanded the dynamics, making your tunes sound warmer and punchier on the dancefloor

Next stop is mp3 tag, where we strip unnecessary meta data and add our source in the Album Artist Name and Album name. Then rename the files back to “%artist% – %title%”
Then copy the files to their final destination in the Serato Library folder.
I have this folder synced to my NAS drive, so I don’t lose any tunes.

The Synology Drive client will copy those files onto the NAS.

Tell mixed in key which source directories have been updated

Mixed In Key will analyse and add cue points and add Ket meta tags to the mp3 file. It will also add the energy level and key to the comments tag, if empty, which is why we make that blank using mp3tag in the previous step.

Meanwhile open Serato, click files and drags the updated sources intro the correct crates on the left.

Find the new tracks by sorting on length, and those with a blank length field will need to be analysed.

Check that the analysed file has a comment with the pitch, energy level & cue points as set by Mixed In Key.

Import the changes in Serato into Mixo

Mixo will do it’s own analysis of the new files

Now the import is complete we should look to export to RekordBox, for creation of USB, should we be playing Nightclubs or Bars with standalone Pioneer/Alpha Theta equipment.

Ensure that you have “Copy hot cues to memory cues” this will ensure that the cues can be used with older CDJs that don’t have the hot cues.

Everything imported from the Serato Library including Smart Crates/Playlists and Cue Points (albeit with Serato Colours)
